Pioneer Woman Ranch Salad Dressing Recipe

Pioneer Woman Ranch Salad Dressing Recipe - recipe card

This is a rich, creamy, and tangy ranch dressing that mimics the iconic Pioneer Woman version. It’s made with a buttermilk and mayonnaise base, fresh herbs, and a hint of garlic and onion. Perfect for salads, as a dip for veggies, or drizzled over roasted potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup full-fat buttermilk, well shaken
  • 1/2 cup full-fat mayonnaise (such as Hellmann’s or Duke’s)
  • 1/2 cup full-fat sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (from about 1/2 lemon)
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons fresh flat-leaf parsley, finely minced (about 8 sprigs)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, finely minced (about 16 sprigs)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, finely minced (about 4 sprigs)

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the buttermilk, mayonnaise, and sour cream. Whisk together until the mixture is completely smooth and homogenous. The base should have a thick but pourable consistency.
  2. Add the lemon juice and white vinegar. Stir well to incorporate. The acid will help brighten the flavor and slightly thin the dressing.
  3. Sprinkle in the kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Whisk thoroughly to ensure all the dry spices are fully dissolved and no lumps remain.
  4. Add the minced parsley, chives, and dill. Stir until the herbs are evenly distributed throughout the dressing. The dressing should look speckled with bright green herbs.
  5. Taste the dressing. Adjust the seasoning if needed: add more salt for a more savory flavor, more lemon juice for extra tang, or more garlic powder for a stronger garlic note.
  6. Transfer the dressing to a clean glass jar or airtight container. For the best flavor, cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
  7. If the dressing thickens too much after chilling, stir in a teaspoon of buttermilk or water to reach your desired consistency before serving.
  8. Serve as a dressing over your favorite salad greens, as a dip for fresh vegetables, or drizzled over roasted potato wedges.

Notes

Storage: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Stir well before using. The flavors will intensify as it sits. Freezing: Not recommended as the dairy will separate and the texture will become grainy. Reheating: None needed—serve chilled. For a thinner dressing, whisk in additional buttermilk one tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is achieved.
