Pioneer Woman Pumpkin Pie Spice

Pioneer Woman Pumpkin Pie Spice - recipe card

This homemade pumpkin pie spice blend captures the warm, aromatic essence of fall with a perfect balance of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves. It’s fresher and more vibrant than store-bought versions, and it takes just minutes to prepare. Use it in pies, lattes, baked goods, or as a cozy addition to oatmeal and yogurt.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground allspice
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cloves

Instructions

  1. Measure all the spices: 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon, 2 teaspoons ground ginger, 2 teaspoons ground nutmeg, 1 1/2 teaspoons ground allspice, and 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cloves.
  2. Place all the spices in a small bowl. Use a whisk or a fork to thoroughly combine them, breaking up any lumps so the blend is uniform in color and texture.
  3. Transfer the finished pumpkin pie spice to an airtight container, such as a small glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Label the jar with the date and contents.
  4. Store in a cool, dark place, such as a spice cabinet or pantry, away from direct sunlight and heat. The spice blend will keep its potency for about 6 months, but for best flavor, use within 3 months.
  5. To use, substitute this blend measure-for-measure in any recipe calling for pumpkin pie spice. For a pumpkin latte, stir 1/2 teaspoon into your coffee grounds before brewing or whisk into milk.
  6. If you prefer a slightly milder flavor, reduce the ground cloves to 1 teaspoon. If you like a little heat, you can add 1/4 teaspoon of ground white pepper, but that is optional.
  7. This recipe yields about 1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) of spice blend, which is equivalent to the amount in most commercial jars.
  8. For a gift, double or triple the recipe and pack the spice blend into decorative jars with a handwritten label and a note with usage suggestions.

Notes

Storage: Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months. For maximum flavor, use within 3 months. Freezing is not recommended. This is a dry spice blend and does not require refrigeration.
