Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef

  • 1 medium onion, finely diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 green bell pepper, finely diced (optional)

  • 1 cup ketchup

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp mustard (yellow or Dijon)

  • 1 tsp chili powder (optional)

  • ½ cup beef broth or water

  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • 6 hamburger buns, toasted

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef – Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef, cook until browned, and drain excess fat.

  2. Cook vegetables – Stir in onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.

  3. Make the sauce – Add ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, chili powder, and broth. Stir until combined.

  4. Simmer the mixture – Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 10–12 minutes until thickened.

  5. Toast buns – Lightly toast the hamburger buns to prevent sogginess.

  6. Assemble & serve – Spoon beef mixture onto buns, add pickles or cheese if desired, and serve hot.
